Description

Process for removing phenol and its homologues from water, as far as they arise in by-product plants of the coking plants and gas works its harmful and annoying effects are already small admixtures of phenol and its homologues e.g. B. in wastewater and dg1. very detrimental to their elimination but difficult and costly precisely because of their relatively small quantities. Now it has been found that the phenol absorbing oils are not just in their natural are fully effective in the liquid state but also in the vapor state, d. H. that even in this state they cause a sufficient excretion of phenols leaves. By using the phenol absorbent in a vaporous state simplified and cheaper, however, as a result of the elimination of more expensive and high Agitators requiring effort, etc. the plant considerably.

The drawing illustrates the process on one of its implementation useful plant.

The oil used as an absorbent is placed in a still a evaporated and on a tower equipped with trays or fillers or the like b passed, to which the phenol-containing liquid is fed from above and there trickles down finely. It is sufficient if the oil vapors, as shown, contain the phenol Liquid can be fed in cocurrent, but can of course also the vapors of the liquid are fed from below or partly in cocurrent and partly fed in countercurrent. The phenol-laden oil vapors condense by the cooling effect of the liquid in the lower part of the tower and it separates In this, depending on the type, the heavier or lighter oil, which by a Overflow c flows back into the still a, from that of the phenol and homologue freed liquid, which flows off through an overflow d. Used as an absorbent an oil with a lower boiling point than phenol and its homologues, so distilled in the bubble a, the absorbent from the phenol again and remains in the Circulation, and the phenol can be withdrawn from the bladder from time to time.

For example, benzene and its homologues, gasoline, can be used as absorbents and, as has been found, trichlorethylene. The latter offers z. B. opposite Petrol and benzenes have the advantage that they are not and also not flammable traces of water is absorbed, so that there is no loss in the circuit this absorbent arises. As a result of these properties, there is also a use this absorbent is advantageous in the liquid state. Condition for effectiveness of the agents mentioned, however, is that the phenol-containing liquid is not alkaline, but is neutral or sour. Therefore, if it is basic in itself, it must first their task on the washing tower be made neutral or sour. The procedure is suitable For example, phenol excretion from wastewater of all kinds and in general in all cases where phenol or its homologues are in such small amounts in liquids Amounts are available that elimination by means of alkalis is out of the question.
