Auf einem Holzrost, bestehend aus zwei Quer- und vier Langlatten, sind 32 Federn mit sogen. Rohrnägeln festgenagelt. Auf den Federn, welche ebenso geschnürt und unter sich verbunden sind, wie bei jeder gewöhnlichen Federmatratze, ruhen Holzplatten, festgebunden auf jeder einzelnen Feder. Die Platten sind auf allen vier Seiten abgerundet und es beträgt der Zwischenraum von Platte zu Platte ca. 10 mm, so dafs jede Feder sammt der auf ihr befestigten Platte bequem' und ohne Reibung auf- und niedergehen kann. Am Kopf- und Fufsende sind je zwei Holzplatten quer über die Matratze festgebunden, jedoch ebenfalls mit jeder Feder verbunden; aufserdem sind am Kopfende noch zwei keilförmige Seitenwände von Holz mittelst schmiedeiserner Winkel an die beiden querliegenden Platten festgeschraubt.
