Description

Device for cultivating microorganisms in the absence of oxygen. from a flat circular bowl a about xo cm in diameter made of transparent glass with a flat bottom and a vertical wall b about 1.6 cm high; 2. from a lid c, also made of transparent glass and of the same outer diameter and the same wall thickness as the bowl a. The vertical wall d of the lid c can be chosen as high as desired; the amount depends on the amount of chemical substances required for absorption. In general, it will need to be about 1.2 cm high. The wall d has a horizontal bend, so far that the lid c can find a support on the side wall b of the shell a. After the bend, the wall d continues vertically downwards into the wall part e, makes a new horizontal bend and is then brought vertically upwards with part f up to about 2 mm to the cover surface. In this way, a groove g is formed inside the lid which runs around the lid.

Durch diese Öffnung i gelangt man unmittelbar in die Rinne g.At any point on the outer edge of the cover surface, e.g. B. at i, a hole about 6 mm in diameter is drilled into the glass of the lid surface. This opening i leads directly into the channel g.

The device is used in the following way: the lid and bowl are heat-sterilized in a known manner. After cooling, the nutrient medium, liquefied by heating, is brought to the bottom of the dish and inoculated with the material to be grown. Then one of the two chemical components that are necessary for oxygen absorption is filled through the opening i, e.g. B. pyrogallic acid, in the gutter g. Then, also through the opening i, the second component, e.g. B. potassium hydroxide solution, and now closes the gap (e to b) still present between shell a and cover c with an air-impermeable kneadable mass, e.g. B. the known plastulin, and in the same way the opening i. The alkaline pyrogallic acid solution then absorbs the oxygen in the air, which is enclosed between the bowl and the lid, and the germs which are contained on or in the nutrient medium grow in this way with the exclusion of oxygen.

The device differs from the previously known apparatus in that the oxygen-absorbing substances are housed in a channel are that the mixture of these substances only needs to take place when the lid and bowl are already hermetically sealed with each other that it is only necessary after mixing is to close the hole in the lid surface.

The advantages of the shell are particularly to be seen in the fact that it is used as a circular double shell is very handy and not very sensitive that it is small Takes space that you can hold the shell vertically, with the oxygen-absorbing Substance accumulates in the deepest part of the gutter. The whole area of the culture medium can can be easily surveyed.

Claims (1)

PATENTANSPRUCH: Doppelschale zur Züchtung von Mikroorganismen unter Sauerstoffabschluß, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die sauerstoffabsorbierenden Stoffe in einer Rinne am Deckel untergebracht sind, die die Mischung dieser Substanzen gestattet, nachdem bereits die Schale mit den zu züchtenden Mikroorganismen beschickt und Deckel und Schale luftdicht miteinander verbunden sind.PATENT CLAIM: Double bowl for the cultivation of microorganisms under Oxygen closure, characterized in that the oxygen-absorbing substances are housed in a channel on the lid, the mixture of these substances permitted after the dish has already been loaded with the microorganisms to be grown and the lid and the shell are connected to one another in an airtight manner.
