nach unten ragend, durch einen in den Boden des Glasgefässes gesteckten Gummipfropfen oder andern Dichtungsverschluss g führt und nach oben in den inneren Hohlraum des Behälters e ausmündet. Der offene Behälter e wird nun durch eine geeignete Platte, z. B. eine Filterplatte aus gesintertem Glas od. dgl., geschlossen, die am Rande des Behälters verkittet ist, so dass das Innere des Hohlraumes vollständig abgeschlossen ist.
An das Röhrchen t wird eine Leitung i angeschlossen, die beispielsweise durch das Gestell oder Tischchen oder ein Tischbein unsichtbar hinweg zu einer Luftpumpe od. dgl. führt. Zweckmässig wird die Leitung i an eine der bekannten, kleinen Luftpumpe angeschlossen, die an eine gewöhnliche vorhandene Wasserleitung angeschlossen werden können.
Überdeckt man die ganze in das Glasgefäss eingebaute und von aussen sichtbare Vorrichtung mit Partikelchen eines unlöslichen Materials, beispielsweise zerkleinerten Marmorstüekchen, die in Wasser, von aussen gesehen, ein Salz vortäuschen können, und füllt das Glas bis zu einem breiten Rand mit Wasser, so kann diese Vorrichtung als wirksames Hilfsmittel zur Nachahmung der chemischen Reaktion benutzt werden.
Sobald man Luft durch die Luftpumpe und die Leitung i in den Behälter e eintreten lässt, verteilt sich diese Luft unter die durchlässige Glasplatte h, die auch z. B. durch eine geeignete Tonplatte ersetzt werden kann. Die Luft dringt durch die poröse Filterplatte und in vielen kleinen und kleinsten Bläschen durch die Marmorteilchen, aus deren Zwischenräumen sie in vielen wirbelnden Perlen an die Oberfläche steigt. Durch Regelung des Wasserzuflusses zur Luftpumpe kann man die Reaktion stärker oder weniger stark machen. Auch kann durch Zusätze das Wasser beliebig gefärbt werden, so dass auch Gärungen und ähnliche Vorgänge dargestellt werden können.
Selbstverständlich ist es nicht notwendig, dem Behälter a oder dem Behälter e gerade die Form zu geben, die in der Zeichnung dargestellt ist, obwohl diese letztere sich als praktisch erwiesen hat, weil sie sich leicht durch die Marmorsplitterchen verdecken lässt.
