Description

Manufacture of water glass It is known, that the natural ones Silica contained in alumina silicate, kaolin, can be obtained immediately after prolonged treatment of the rock with boiling caustic soda or potassium hydroxide, if necessary under pressure, in Solution can be brought and that the treatment is particularly easy Sulfuric acid decomposable kaolins silica residue obtained with sulfuric acid is also relatively easily soluble in alkali. With those in nature occurring alkali aluminum double silicates, such as leucite, phonolite, feldspar etc., however, this does not succeed or only to a lesser extent.

It has been found that the silicic acid of these rocks as well can be brought into solution by alkalis, if one combines one here Way of working served. This consists in the fact that one of the rocks in a known way first subjected to a sintering or melting process and the resulting appropriately crushed product treated with acid. This can be beneficial z. B. proceed in such a way that the sintered or melted product is treated by treating with water, e.g. B. by letting water flow in or by spraying water on it, converted into a glassy powder and the latter then treated with acid. One can but also switch off the pretreatment with water completely and the hot melt directly Quench with acid. The treatment described above is the Silicic acid contained in the rock deposited in granular crystalline form, in which it can easily be separated from the liquor by filtration.

The silica obtained in this way is noticeably granular in spite of it crystalline structure surprisingly easily by treating n-rii sodium or potassium hydroxide solution Transfer immediately into water glass solutions. The solution here is extraordinary easy, even in thinner alkaline solutions and without prior application: pressure. Depending on the strength the applied caustic soda results in a glass of water: different degrees. In this way it is the production of a commercial product of .4o ° B6 without further achievable.
