Um bei Schraubstöcken, bei welchen der die vordere lose Backe A tragende Schenkel S (Fig. ι und 2 der beiliegenden Zeichnung) in einem entsprechenden Gehäuse des Hintertheiles des Schraubstockes verschiebbar gelagert ist, das Einfallen von Feilspänen, Staub etc. zwischen die Führung des unteren Theiles dieses Schenkels in jeder, auch in der weitesten Stellung der Backen zu verhindern, ist an dem Hintertheil B₁ eine dünne, elastische Stahlplatte ρ befestigt, welche den Raum zwischen den Backen, auf dem unteren Schenkeltheil von S aufliegend, vollständig überdeckt und hinter eine in der Biegung des Schenkels 5 angebrachte Rolle 0 geführt ist, so dafs das freie Ende der Platte an dem verticalen Theil des Schenkels S nach aufwärts gerichtet ist. Damit sich das besagte Ende nicht in den unterhalb der Backen bezw. zwischen den Schenkeln S und B₁ liegenden Arbeitsraum (namentlich.j bei vollständiger oder fast gänzlicher Zusammenschiebung der Backen) einbiegen kann, erhält die Platte in den seitlichen Gleitnuthen η η geeignete Führung. Bei der Verschiebung, der Backen gegen einander wird die Rolle 0 über die Platte ρ hinweggezogen und letztere mehr oder weniger unterhalb der Backen horizontal ausgebreitet, so dafs die sich in einander verschiebenden Theile stets gegen das Einfallen kleiner Theilchen geschützt sind und dadurch eine leichte Beweglichkeit behalten.
