Device for producing endless, helically wound wires
For the production of wire screws of great length you need machines with which
the wire screws emerge without rotating about their axis. Such machines
are usually set up so that the wire is wrapped around a stationary mandrel
in that the part causing the bend turns around the axis of the resulting screw
turns. However, the spring back of the material can prevent the rotation in this way
cannot be completely eliminated.

The construction and operation of the machine can be seen from the drawings.

Rollen a
a sitzende Zahnrad e umkreist das Zahnrad d.
From the wire reel l, the wire k is guided through an opening in the toothed wheel f to the feed rollers a. When set in motion, these rollers press the wire onto the deflection rollers b and the stop c. The position of the stop c (see Fig. 3) determines the pitch, the distance between the deflection rollers b and the axis of rotation of the wheel f determines the diameter of the resulting wire screw. The rollers a can be driven once in such a way that the wheel h, which is arranged in the axial direction of the wheel f and is connected to the guide tube i for the wire screw being formed, is rotated when the wheel f is stationary; the tube i has a ring gear d from which the rotation is transmitted to the rollers a. A movement of the rollers a can also be caused by turning the wheel f while the wheel h remains at rest. In this case, the ring gear d stands still, and the gear wheel e sitting on the shaft of a roller a orbits the gear wheel d. So you can make a wire screw by turning wheel h while wheel f is stationary, and by turning wheel f and locking wheel h . If you turn both wheels (h and f) in the opposite direction, the rotation of the rollers a is accelerated, if you turn both in the same direction, it is slowed down. If the production of the wire screw is accomplished by rotating the wheel h while the wheel f is stationary, the screw emerges with rotation from the tube i. If, on the other hand, one holds the wheel h tightly and turns the wheel f, the screw emerges without turning. The prerequisite is that so much wire is brought in through the rollers a that there is enough wire for one turn of the screw with one turn of the wheel. If the latter is not the case, the screw still comes out with a little twist. This rotation can take place in both directions, depending on whether too much or too little wire is brought up for a screw thread through the rollers a during one rotation of the wheel f. It can happen that the direction of rotation changes during the manufacture of a screw, because the wire is not always fed through the rollers at the same speed or the diameter does not always remain the same during bending. No matter how small the resulting rotational movement of the wire screw, it has such an effect in the case of a long screw that the further processing of the wire screw is disturbed after its production.
You can get rid of this problem if you do the right thing
Turning the wheel h compensates for the resulting turn of the wire screw. The fabrication
so one will handle so that a worker monitors the emerging screw
and by turning the wheel h, any twisting that may have arisen is turned back.
