Bei diesen bekannten Einrichtungen ίο wird die Richtung der auspuffenden Gase nur unwesentlich geändert, infolgedessen tritt die Schalldämpfung nicht in genügendem Maße ein. Erfindungsgemäß besitzt die äußerste Windung einen parallel zur Achse verlaufenden Austrittsschlitz, der sich auf der ganzen axialen Länge der Windung ausdehnt und die Gase im wesentlichen radial und rechtwinklig zu der Eintrittsrichtung der Gase nach außen auspuffen läßt, so daß ein geradliniger Auspuffstrahl annähernd dieselbe Querschnittslläche und Länge wie der spiralförmige Kanal aufweist.The invention relates to a sound-absorbing muffler for internal combustion engines, in particular in motor vehicles. Die Vorrichtung ist als ein getrennter Aufsatz ausgebildet, welcher auf das Auspuffrohr in bequemer Weise aufgesetzt werden kann. Zu diesem Zweck ist ein zylindrisches Gehäuse α eingerichtet, welches an dem inneren Ende offen und an dem äußeren Ende durch eine Deckplatten abgeschlossen ist. Innerhalb dieses Gehäuses ist ein Entspanner c angeordnet, welcher sich aus axial zylindrisch verlaufenden Spiralwindungen zusammensetzt, die eine mittlere Kammer if von nahezu zylindrischer Gestalt umgeben. Der Durchmesser dieser Kammer d ist annähernd so groß wie derjenige des Auspuffrohrs. Der Entspanner c wird z. B. aus einem rechteckigen Metallblech durch entsprechendes Zusammenrollen hergestellt, während eine Mehrzahl von aus Aluminium bestehenden Distanzstreifen e zwischen den einzelnen Windungen eingelegt sind und diese in richtiger Lage halten. Die ganze Vorrichtung besitzt am offenen inneren Ende eine Muffe /, welche mit Schlitzen g ausgestattet ist, um eine federnde Verbindung mit dem Auspuffrohr herzustellen.The device is designed as a separate attachment which can be conveniently placed on the exhaust pipe.
