in Berührung kommen.
Process for automatic gas analysis with the aid of a reaction gas
It is known to continuously determine a gas in a gas mixture in that
another type of gas is added to it at one point on its barrel, which is found in the
further outflow of the mixture in a reaction curve with that to be examined
Gas connects. The resulting volume reduction is used for automatic
Record the result. Because of the simple apparatus, the process has
with which one can determine and examine gases and gas mixtures that are otherwise difficult to determine
can, and because of the great accuracy with which it works compared to other methods,
very significant benefits. Combined, for example, to determine oxygen
in a gas mixture that does not contain any other flammable gases, this with hydrogen
or vice versa for the determination of hydrogen in a gas mixture this with oxygen,
the oxidation leads to a reduction in volume that is three times as large,
than removing the oxygen or hydrogen content by absorption
would. On the other hand, the method has the major disadvantage that the by
If the reaction gas is supplied, the gas mixtures produced tend to explode, yes
can give rise to dangerous explosions as soon as they come into contact with the substances
come into contact. These heat up considerably when the oxidation occurs,
What is more, that you usually open the reaction space to initiate the process
must withstand elevated temperature. In the case of the hand-operated. Apparatus can be used
Now set up the admixture so that it is only immediately in front of the reaction chamber
takes place, so that the deflagrations that occur are only so insignificant
assume that they have no influence on the analysis. However, automatic devices are required
larger mixing spaces and pipe connections in front of the reaction chambers (riser pipes
for the barrier liquids), in which such large quantities of gas are already mixed
are present that the accuracy of the analysis due to the deflagration that occurs
is lost or even the entire apparatus is destroyed.
In order to remedy this inconvenience, one dilutes in the one described below
Process the gas to be examined either by the reaction gas itself or by
a third neutral gas so far that the gas mixture to be examined
its composition is always below the explosion limit. The neutral one
Gas is obtained from the residual gases from the previous analysis, which of course
are free of one or the other reacting gas component.
auftritt. The new procedure works as follows: It should be oxygen
be determined in a gas mixture that also contains only nitrogen and low
Contains quantities of noble gases.
The maximum level of oxygen that can occur
can, should 5o o, lö not o: climb @ n, .. Pure hydrogen is used as the reaction gas.
The measuring and pump vessel for the oxygen-containing gas of an apparatus to be examined,
as is characterized for example in patent specification 239 887, has one
Content of 50 ccm, then the measuring and pump vessel for the reaction gas, so
made the hydrogen, 55o ccm large, so that when the two gases are mixed,
which takes place in front of the reaction chamber; to 6oo ccm of total gas, the largest of which
Part Z is hydrogen, 25 ccm of oxygen come in, i.e. less than 5%. With the slow one
Combustion of this gas mixture supplied to the reaction chamber is excessively heated
Contact substances is with this composition or this concentration of oxygen
There is no longer a risk of explosion in hydrogen and the apparatus works
perfect. If you want to save on hydrogen, you suck it up from the previous one
Analysis of remaining gas in a third pump and measuring vessel and feeds this
: always add the same amount to the gas to be examined and the reaction gas. Of course
In this case, a neutral gas must be introduced into the apparatus during start-up

To examine oxygen for its purity without the danger of an explosion
