HERMANN BRÜGGEMANN in BERLIN Verfahren zur Herstellung von Fettkreide zum Pastellzeichnen.HERMANN BRÜGGEMANN in BERLIN Process for the production of bold chalk for pastel drawing.
Patentirt im Deutschen Reiche vom 4. August 1877 ab.Patented in the German Empire on August 4, 1877.
The colors used to make the chalk are the same as those used by artists for paintings and can be used for watercolor painting. I buy these colors in their natural dry state in paint shops.

To a kind of equality among these from different ones Producing dyes for substances and bodies becomes each of the foregoing Paint on 102 g an addition of 20 g of slaked and dry plaster of paris and 14 g of slurried white chalk added.
All copper-containing colors such as verdigris, Schweinfurter, silk green are excluded and so on, as well as the colors produced by adding arsenic, such as yellow operment, Royal yellow, Chinese yellow and so on, and also all the aniline colors.
This mixture is rubbed very finely in water; once it has dried, 100 g of a mixture consisting of 1 ± kg of white-bleached wax and 1 kg of paraffin, which has both melted together, are taken, to which the above color is added in the warmth. This is then rubbed through again with water. When the mixture has become dry, it is pulverized and mixed with 150 g of an oil mixture consisting of 1 kg of unbleached poppy seed oil, 160 g of petroleum, 100 g of Zack oil and 400 g of gasoline. If this added oil mixture has been sucked into the powdered paint, the resulting paint is mixed with gum tragacanth dissolved in water, so that a thick dough is formed, which is then shaped into pencils, which after drying are put into paper for cleanliness and durability to be glued. The gasoline added to the oil has no further purpose than that it promotes the absorption of the mixed oil into the powdered paint, whereupon it soon evaporates. After a while, the oil mixture added to the paint turns into a gelatinous state due to the alum, whereupon the paint stick can be used.
The advantage of these colored pencils is that the line made with ease is adherent, but this can be rubbed with a paper wiper, which also mixes with multiple colors can be made on the paper; by overdrawing one can completely cover the previous shade of color on the paper. ■ One helps oneself of a linen cloth wiper, which at the end is moistened by immersion in gasoline, so one can achieve such washes, as in watercolor painting. Namely this is Procedure with such a wiper when starting a drawing is very appropriate to having Easily and in little time to provide the paper surface with different basic tones. After a while the colors adhere so strongly that the drawing can also be washed off, withstand both alcohol and green soap. With sulfur ether, gasoline and turpentine the drawing is attacked, but it cannot be completely removed from the paper.
