Variometer for horizontal and vertical intensity. It is already
a geomagnetic horizontal variometer became known, its essential characteristic
the use of two magnetic needles with low straightening force in a weakened earth
and in one of the other fields opposite to the direction of the earth's field.
The present innovation aims at a further refinement while maintaining the principle
also to measure the vertical intensity and work at the same time
make it easier with the device.
für den zweiten Magneten c° in der Bussole a2.The variometer shown in the drawing accordingly consists of a connection of three externally identical bussolen-like housings a, a1, a: in each of which a magnetic needle can oscillate freely over a division b in tip bearings. This combination of three instruments can be leveled by any arrangement. There are differences with regard to the magnetic moments of the individual needles. The middle needle c of the orientation busole has the greatest possible directional moment and oscillates at a suitable distance from the other busoles without significant influence in the field of the earth over the division b; it will therefore adjust itself in the magnetic north-south direction. The two needles cl, c22 arranged laterally therefrom, however, have a small magnetic moment. One of these, cl, swings in its direction and in a field of earth that is attached to the floor of the Bussole. Distance from the needle cl changeable magnet is for the most part compensated. The arrangement of this upper deck magnet is not shown in the figure, but corresponds to that of the compensation magnet for the second magnet c ° in the bus pole a2.
Die dritte Bussole a° enthält
This can be seen in Fig. 1. The sleeve d is used to hold the compensation magnet, the fine adjustment device e to regulate the distance of the magnet from the needle. Circle sector f and pointer i are used to set and read the direction of the compensation magnet. The third bussole a ° also contains a needle c2 with a low straightening force. The compensation magnet attached to the bottom in the sleeve d is so close to the needle or has such a magnetic moment that the needle is opposite to the direction it would take in the normal earth field.
Forschungsreisen in Betracht kommt.
Abb. i zeigt die senkrechte Stellung.
Both bussoles a1 and a ° can be rotated in bearings g and are at such a distance
arranged by the Bussole a that its needle does not affect the needles in a1
and a = can exercise and vice versa. The facility is also available for preliminary examinations
can be used with only two bussoles. Accordingly, the device remains usable,
if one of the Bussolen a, a1 or a2 is in need of repair, which is especially for
Research trips come into consideration. The middle bussole a is only used for setting
of the entire instrument in the magnetic north-south direction :: - By putting it on
a rotatable diopter ring
according to Fig.2 you can see the instrument
in a simple way as an aid in determining the measuring stations in the area
use. The two lateral bussoles serve as measuring instruments, in such a way that
that, as with known variometers, the one resulting from the readings of the needles
The spread angle can be related to the intensity, if the oscillation planes
both needles are aligned accordingly. The variometer still has the advantage
that the plane in which the needles swing, both horizontally and vertically
can be asked. Fig. I shows the vertical position. In this is the instrument
suitable for measurements of vertical intensity. For measuring the horizontal intensity
can both Bussoles about the axis formed by the two bearing screws g so
be rotated that the plane of vibration of their needles in a common horizontal
Level falls.
Das Variometer gestattet die Ermittlung der Vertikal- und Horizontalintensität
in schneller und bequemer Weise. The variometer allows the determination of the vertical and horizontal intensity
in a quick and convenient way.
