Erfindungsgemäß wird die den Glühofen durchziehende, im Pilgerschritt arbeitende Fördervorrichtung für die zu vergütenden Rohre gleichzeitig auch als Mittel zum Weiterführen derselben durch die Raumluft benutzt, wodurch die Rohre Gelegenheit erhalten, sich unter den gleichen Verhältnissen abzukühlen, wie sie sich vorher erhitzt haben. Oder es werden zwei Pilgerschrittfördervorrichtungen hiiltereinandergeschaltet, von denen die eine außerhalb des Ofens angeordnet ist und die Weiterbeförderung der den Ofen verlassenden Rohre übernimmt.
