WILHELM MAYWALD in HALLE a. S. StoTsfrei sich schliefsencles Wasserleitungsventil.WILHELM MAYWALD in HALLE a. S. Shut-free self-closing of the water main valve.
Patentirt im Deutschen Reiche vom 13. Juni 1878 ab.Patented in the German Empire on June 13, 1878.
The same consists of the housing with two pistons A and B and the lever H. The hollow piston A has a larger cross-section than the piston B, and is therefore driven up, whereby the valve closes. Under the piston B there is a small valve 0 which opens when the piston b opens and whose cone is equipped with two incisions so that it cannot close completely. The two pistons A and B are connected to each other by the lever H of the same arm. The space within which the final valve body of the main valve A moves is conical, so that the opening and closing of the outflow opening cannot occur suddenly.
If, when opening the valve, one presses the lever H and thus the piston A down, the piston B moves up and water passes under it through the valve 0. If the whole is then left to itself, the piston A is moved up by the water pressure due to the larger cross-section, while the piston B goes down at the same time, and the water under the latter will slowly flow back through the small incisions in the valve cone 0 for so long until valve A is closed. The water pressure, which had fallen during the outflow, will now gradually reach its original level again due to the gradual narrowing of the outflow cross-section. In order to render harmless the substance of the water, which would occur when the valve is closed, the hollow space of the piston A is also filled with air and thus forms an elastic cushion.
The valve closes automatically because the water pressure drives piston A upwards, and the closure is free of material because the said piston can only move slowly upwards, the outflow opening gradually narrows and the air cushion in piston A prevents bumps.
