Method and device for determining the water content of insulating oils. For electrical equipment such as transformers and oil switches, it is necessary that the insulating oil is dry. The water content of the oils can be verified by the splash test, ie by heating the oil and by observing the cracking noises (cracking) that occur. A much more sensitive method for the detection of the water content is the determination of the dielectric strength of the oil, which, however, requires the availability of expensive equipment. However, it is not possible to use this method to determine the water content of oil quantitatively.
B. Natrium, Kalium o. dgl., in Öl enthaltenes
Wasser zersetzen.
The invention is a method which in a simple manner
enables the quantitative determination of the water content of oils. The procedure
makes use of the fact that alkali metals, e.g. B. sodium, potassium o. The like., Contained in oil
Decompose water. It consists in that contained in a certain amount of oil
Water decomposes with the help of alkali metals and its amount as hydrogen
is measured. Since the amounts of hydrogen produced during the decomposition are important
have a larger volume than the water added to the oil, a smaller one can also be used
Water content can be made visible to the eye as hydrogen gas.
dargestellt. Gefäß a, beispielsweise aus Glas, ist an seinem in Abb. i unteren Ende
In the figures is a facility for performing the procedure
shown. Vessel a, for example made of glass, is at its lower end in Fig. I
narrowed and provided with a graduation b. This vessel becomes
with
filled with the oil to be examined f. Then from a bottle in the thin one
Sodium rods are kept under rock oil, one or more sodium rods one or more
the oil is introduced and then the vessel is closed by the stopper c. This
The plug has a groove d (Fig. 2) through which the hydrogen displaced
Oil can drain off. The vessel is then turned over so that the narrowed part follows
directed upwards, and clamped in a tripod for example (Fig. 3). Well begins under
the action of the alkali metal caused the decomposition of water, and that developed
Hydrogen gas k collects in the graduated tube of the vessel. Out of the crowd
of the evolved hydrogen can affect the amount of water contained in the oil
getting closed.
The graduation b can be divided in such a way that the water content
of the oil to be examined can be read immediately in about thousandths of the oil volume
leaves.
Instead of adding the alkali metal in small pieces to the oil
you can also get it in stick form! in the stopper c of the vessel as shown in
Fig.q. is shown.
dgl. in Betracht. It has been shown that sodium, for example, reacts very quickly
Coats a layer of condensation products from the oil, which is an action
of sodium to make the water impossible. To counter this, one can use the oil
add a solvent so that the surface of the alkali metal is always metallic
is kept blank. Such solvents come, for. B. benzene, petroleum ether and.
like. into consideration.
aurch den entwickelten "Wasserstoff verdrängte Öl tropft durch die Nut d ab.The procedure for @ determining the water content proceeds as follows
ensure that vessel a is filled with oil up to mark g (Fig. i). Then it becomes anhydrous
Solvent, such as benzene, poured in up to the h mark. Before you get the alkali metal
e, the two liquids are shaken well. The stopper c
is put on and the vessel is reversed, so that the pipe with the graduation after
is directed upwards. Now the decomposition of the water begins, and the excess,
The oil displaced by the "evolved" hydrogen drips off through the groove d.
