Device for determining the melting behavior of suppositories
For the assessment of both suppository masses and finished drug-containing suppositories, the determination of the melting point or the solidification point is not sufficient in practice. Rather, it has been shown that a reliable judgment about the usefulness of suppositories or suppository bases can only be obtained if the melting behavior is exactly checked at different temperatures.
The present invention relates to a device for determining the melting behavior of suppositories; The device is characterized by a water-filled, constant temperature tube, which is graduated in the upper tapered part, contains a cage for holding the suppository below the water surface, and is closed from below after the suppository has been introduced, e.g. B. with the help of a plug carrying a tube.
In the drawing, an example of the subject of the invention is shown in section.
The suppository to be examined 1 or the base mass brought into suppository form is kept within a constant temperature amount of water 2, z. B. with the help of a spiral cage 3 made of glass. The like. Fastened in a glass tube 4 in such a way that it is covered by the aqueous layer. The upper part of the tube 4 is graduated in the upper tapered part 5. The tube 4 is placed in a constant temperature room, e.g. B. arranged in a cylinder 6 through which tempered water flows. The tube 4 is advantageously attached to a holder (not shown) in such a way that it can be shaken at regular time intervals.
It is advisable to close the lower opening of the glass tube 4 from below after the introduction of the suppository to be tested 1, e.g. B. by a plug 7, through the bore of a bent tube 8 at the upper end is passed.
To determine the properties of a suppository, a suppository is inserted into the cage 3, the tube 4 is closed with the stopper 7 carrying the glass tube 8 and placed in the water-filled vessel 6 brought to the desired temperature up to the graduation 5, whereby it is filled with water fills. It is now observed at what speed in the graduated part. of the tube 5 collects the liquid phase.
The device allows the melting behavior that the suppository will show in the rectum to be precisely determined, so that corrections are possible in the sense that is necessary for the optimal effect of the drug desired in each case.
