B. in Form eines Schwenk armes oder einer losen Anordnung, die im Bedarfsfall auf die seitliche Türscheibe aufgesetzt werden kann. Ein erneutes Betätigen der Taste am Stauende hält die Zifferanzeige auf dem momentanen Wert fest und zeigt somit die Staulänge an. Entgegenkommende Fahrzeugführer werden somit über den Stau und die Staulänge unmittelbar informiert und können eine rechtzeitige Anpassung der Fahrgeschwindigkeit vornehmen bzw. die Fahrstrecke rechtzeitig verlassen. Nach beispiels weise 5 min schaltet eine elektronische Zeitsteuerung den Staumelder automatisch ab (Fig. 2). Eine Signalleuchte dient der Überprüfung des Betriebszustandes der Anordnung durch den Fahrzeugführer. Der Staumelder kann zusammen mit dem Rückspiegel eine Einheit bilden, die sehr robust und wenig störanfällig ist. Durch das Anbringen des Staumelders zwischen dem Rück spiegel und der Frontscheibe wird die Sicht des Fahrzeug führers nicht beeinträchtigt.
