Abstract

The floor (2) of the silencer is constructed as a thermal expansion compensator, being arched and/or floating in the cover (1). The pipes (3) are made up of individual pieces with a length-dia. ratio greater than 1.6 to 1.8, and the individual pipe pieces (3a,3b) are joined to one another by push seats. In the push seats between the pipe pieces overlapping by 20 to 30 mm intermediate layers (4) with reduced contact surfaces are provided. USE/ADVANTAGE - The high durability exhaust silencer for a vehicle has compensation for relatively strong length expansions.

Description

The invention relates to an exhaust silencer for Internal combustion engines with several floors, one jacket, so like pipes in the floor, made up of an im essential titanium-containing material. This exhaust Silencers can be used as absorption or reflection Dampers work, but also in mixed construction builds.

A silencer made of a titanium material stands out characterized by low weight and is also extremely corro sions resistant, but can a. because of the heat expansion coefficient, but especially because of a Material embrittlement of titanium explained later materials - caused by high hydrogen concentrations trations in the area of sliding seats - usual construction program mufflers do not simply slide onto a titanium Silencers are transmitted. It is self-ver already known from exhaust mufflers To deviate special materials from the usual construction principles Chen, such as the US 40 64 963 or the DE-GM 16 80 789 show.

To show measures with the help of which a titanium sound damper can be made stable, is the job of present invention. To solve this problem are the features of the single claim provided.

In order to avoid the rela strong linear expansion in and on the silencer to be able to compensate are, on the one hand, the soils of the Silencer designed like a compensator, d. H. the  Bottoms of the silencer are able to extend the lengths expansions especially of the pipes attached to the floors record or compensate. For this, the floors be arched or membrane-like. Furthermore ent the floors fold a compensator effect when they are floating in the coat.

The pipes of the silencer are a maximum of one Length-diameter ratio of 1.6-1.8 in one piece, longer pipes are made in several pieces. A pipe with a diameter of 70 mm therefore has a maximum length of about 120 mm, however, longer pipes are required Lich, so these are made of individual shorter pieces of pipe composed. Here are the individual shorter tubes pieces connected to each other via sliding seats put together. The individual pieces of pipe in However, the sliding seat area is not directly the same ten, rather is between the individual pipe sections in the Sliding seat area provided an intermediate layer. This Liner can be by a wire mesh or a ge suitable ceramic mat are formed and thus reduced in the overlap area together by the sliding seat quantity-added pipe sections, which are preferably over a Length extends from 20 mm to 30 mm, a reduced con tact area. If two pieces of pipe were made from one Ti tan material in an exhaust muffler of a burner engine via a simple sliding seat without intermediate joined together, d. H. thus existed between the two pipe sections along the overlap area in substantial surface contact, so this was sliding sitting area after exposure to exhaust gas an extreme high hydrogen concentration found, the one he increased material embrittlement and thus crack formation would have. This undesirable concentration of hydrogen can with the sliding seat designed according to the invention, however be prevented.

The attached sectional schematic diagram shows again we significant features of a titanium silencer according to the invention, in particular for the exhaust system of an internal combustion engine. The jacket 1 , the bottoms 2 and the tubes 3 are made of a material that contains 99% titanium. These titanium sheets can be formed like steel sheets and welded to one another in a protective gas atmosphere. As can be seen, the bottoms 2 are curved and longer tubes 3 are composed of individual tube pieces 3 a, 3 b. In the sliding seat area between the one individual tube pieces 3 a, 3 b liners 4 are provided as example in the form of ceramic mats. These elastic intermediate layers 4 are not completely on the surfaces in the overlap area between the two pipe sections 3 a, 3 b, so that a reduced contact area of about 16% occurs in this overlap area. With these measures, the material stress, in particular due to harmful exhaust gas components, is kept low.
