Kugel. In the correspondence with the patent office regarding my application of July 24, 1989 (published application No. 39 24 405 A1), I have already mentioned that the considerations expressed on this open up a wide field. The proposal I am describing is based on the considerations outlined there. Here, too, physical conditions as they exist in water depths of 100, 150 m etc. are taken as a basis and evaluated accordingly. In order to maintain these physical conditions, a water silo of the appropriate height is required. In the lower part of this silo A, a number of cylinders E are connected, which are provided with a closure member B towards the silo. Each of these cylinders E contains a movable piston D with piston rod, coil spring, movable spring support and locking plug (all together is referred to below as a piston unit), since these parts form a unit. The coil spring in this unit is preloaded, in the example to 10 Atü. The plug or bolt at the end of the piston rod prevents the spring from relaxing under 10 atm. The whole unit is withdrawn from the outside and with energy from the outside so far that the opening J is free, through which the ball can be brought into the cylinder. The entire cylinder in front of the piston is also filled with low-pressure water. If the ball is in the cylinder, the unit is drawn back into the cylinder, again with energy from outside, as shown in sketch 1, and G is locked behind the spring support F so that the unit can no longer go back. In this starting position, the closure member B is opened. Since the space in front of piston D is completely filled with ball C and residual water, the pressure in front of the piston is increased to (in the example) 10 atm without loss of high pressure water. The pressure in front of the piston through the open silo and behind the piston through the coil spring is therefore 10 Atü. The balance is thus established. Then additional pressure is exerted from the outside through the opening H on the spring support. This pressure is transferred to the spring (law of conservation of energy), so that the pressure on the piston increases and this pushes the ball C through the opened closure member B into the silo. Thereafter, the closure member B is closed again and the piston assembly as a whole is withdrawn again until the ball is again behind the cylinder opening J, by external energy. A new ball can then be placed in the cylinder. When the closure member B is closed and the piston assembly has to be moved, there are only slight frictional resistances, while the pressure in front of and behind the piston for inserting the ball into the silo is approximately 10 atm, but the spring pressure due to a decrease in expansion something can subside. If the ball is in the silo, it floats upwards by itself and is fed into a kind of bucket elevator. The falling energy in the example is then about 1 to at a drop height of approx.
in Energie umsetzt. This proposal with the ball is only given in order to explain the principle used in a generally understandable way. In the case of an implementation, a ball or the like is expediently omitted. Instead of the ball, the space in front of the piston is simply filled with low-pressure water (overflow water) without bubbles. The cylinder opening J is eliminated and for this purpose a closable inlet opening is to be arranged directly behind the closure member B, as shown in sketch 2. The letter J is also used for this inlet opening. The principle remains exactly the same. When the closure member B is open, the inlet opening J ( sketch 2) naturally remains closed and vice versa. Instead of a bucket elevator (in the case of a ball or the like), a pressurized water tube is of course used, which absorbs the water that is pushed up and overflowing by the numerous cylinders, directs it down and converts it into energy via a turbine etc. with a generator.
Using a spring balance, I extrapolated that in use
Example a coil spring of about 15 m in length in the unloaded
Condition that is compressed at a load of 10 to 1 m each
would, so that a spring preloaded with 100 tons has a length of
Would have 5 m. Feathers that are as long as possible would be desirable
Would allow stroke in the cylinder with the largest possible diameter.
The closure members should be dimensioned so that a piston stroke
would take as little time as possible. For a period of time
of 30 seconds per stroke could be one stroke for every 30 cylinders
take place per second per silo.
