Description
Process and device for bright annealing of metals. The invention intended for bright annealing of metals in a closed furnace space or container oxygen scavenging agents to one according to the requirements of the annealing process to take effect at a fixed point in time without opening the furnace or annealing pot.
When annealing in the muffle or pot annealing furnace, the annealing material is turned into a Put an iron pot in it, cover it with the lid and smear it with clay, so that the goods are not attacked by the heating gases in an oxidizing way. Usually fills the annealing material only takes out 1/2 to 1/2 of the pot space. The rest of the room is more atmospheric Air filled. This air has an oxidizing effect on the annealed iron or metal, the surface of the same turns black. In order to keep them bare, one needs in practice e.g. B. iron filings, which fill the free pot space and the air drive out. In this way, almost bare material can be obtained. But this glow is expensive, because the filling and emptying are special labor costs demands and because fuel. is consumed to warm up the fillers. Because of this annealing with chips is only seen as a makeshift.
Various other means have been suggested for obtaining bare glowing goods. Leu; ht gas, generator gas or any other inert gas was introduced into the annealing pot. There were a uch coals and a ther reducing agents into the pot before the reinsetzen added. But these procedures were either confused and dangerous, or they did not do the job well enough. Based on the knowledge that the effect of atmospheric oxygen on the material to be annealed is negligibly small during its gradual heating, because the gases are forced by their ever increasing expansion to escape from the unavoidable leaks of the pot closure, and because for the same reason heating gases cannot penetrate from the outside, but that when the pot cools slowly in the oven or in the air in the pot, a vacuum is created and therefore the air flows into the pot, the invention consists in that part of the oxygen-absorbing agent is brought into effect in the glow pot at the moment when the highest temperature is reached and cooling begins. If as much carbon were added to the pot as is theoretically necessary to also bind the oxygen flowing in when it cools down '. Thus the excess saw carbon or the luminescent or generator gas present in excess would have a carburizing effect on the iron and change its composition and properties.
There will be: therefore only so much oxygen-binding agent in the pot, as is theoretically necessary to bind the oxygen in the pot, freely given. To bind the oxygen that penetrates during cooling, is the additional oxygen scavenging agent in a closed vessel of different Form introduced. This vessel is covered by a stopper or lid, etc. or only lubricated, in such a way that the closure at a certain temperature melts or evaporates and then releases the absorbent. The one mentioned The melting or evaporation temperature must be the same as the annealing temperature of the goods.
On the drawings are some of the different shapes of the vessel shown. In the figures, a means the vessel, b the oxygen-absorbing one Fabric, c the stopper, d the openings that become free when the lid melts.
The vessel a can also be spherical, in two parts. The content will in this case free as soon as the greasing mass melts and the vessel falls apart.
This procedure can be used wherever it is appropriate or it is necessary to keep the furnace chamber closed during the annealing process, z. B. also in ceramic ovens with salt additives to achieve stone glaze etc. The vessel itself can be made of any fire-resistant material.
