In dem Hauptpatent ist ein Verfahren zum Aufschweißen von Plättchen aus hochwertigem Stahl (Werkzeugstahl, Schneüdrehstahl usw.) auf minderwertigeren Stahl oder Eisen angegeben, bei dem die Schweißung nach dem elektrischen Widerstandsschweißverfahren vorgenommen wird. Für derartige Schweißungen eignet sich vorteilhaft eine besondere Abart des Widerstandsschweißverfahrens, nämlich das sogenannte Abschmelz- oder Abbrennverfahren, bei dem die zu schweißenden Gegenstände zunächst bis zur Berührung einander genähert und dann auf eine kurze Entfernung wieder voneinander entfernt werden, so daß zwischen den beiden zu verschweißenden Gegenständen ein oder mehrere kleine Lichtbogen entstehen. Durch diese werden etwa zwischen den zu verschweißenden Flächen vorhandene Unreinlichkeiten weggebracht und die Schweißflächen selbst sehr schnell auf die erforderliche Schweißhitze gebracht. Dies ist besonders vorteilhaft für das aus hochwertigem Material bestehende Stahlp-ättchen. da bei diesem die Schweißhitze sich nur auf eine verhältnismäßig dünne Schicht ausdehnen darf, um das Plättchen nicht zu überhitzen oder gar zu verbrennen.
