Abstract

A composite component for use as an interior wall lining, esp. for aircraft comprises a cork core with faces of a higher modulus material. The cork is saturated in a binder which is fire resistant, prevents heat build up and does not produce toxic gas in a fire, therefore acting as a self-extinguishing agent. The panel comprises a core (1) of cork saturated in a fire resistant binder with low smoke and toxic gas generation. Higher modulus faces (4, 5) are bonded (2, 3) to each side of the core (1) with adhesive e.g. phenol or polyurethane based. The faces (4, 5) may be fibre reinforced plastic e.g. glass reinforced phenol formaldehyde or metal plate e.g. steel, aluminium. USE/ADVANTAGE - The composite panel can be used as a wall lining or partition within passenger aircraft and is fire resistant without increasing cost.

Die Fasern können dabei aus Glas, Kohlenstoff oder Aramid bestehen, während als Kunststoffe sowohl Duroplaste wie Phenol-Formaldehyd, Polymid, ungesättigte Polyester oder Epoxid, als auch Thermo­ plaste, beispielsweise Polyethersulfon, Polyetherimid, Polyether­ etherketon oder Polyphenylensulfid, geeignet sind. Als Haftver­ mittler können Stoffe auf der Basis von Phenol oder Polyurethan eingesetzt werden, sofern ein solcher Haftvermittler erforderlich ist. Für die Deckschichten können anstelle der genannten faser­ verstärkten Kunststoffe im Rahmen der Erfindung auch Metall­ bleche, beispielsweise aus Aluminium, Titan oder Stahl, Verwen­ dung finden.The illustration shows a cross section through a plate-shaped component in composite construction.
