Process for the production of organic bismuth compounds. By
the main patent 413778 is a process protected by which one from bismuth hydroxide
or bismuth salts and the sulfonic acids of catechol or their alkali salts
Can produce compounds whose alkali salts are soluble in water.
A particularly favorable manufacturing process has been found that
to act on the salts of the catechol compounds mentioned bismuth hydroxide
leaves with the addition of as much base as to achieve a neutral end point
necessary is.
It has now been found that by transferring this method
obtained on aromatic o-dioxycarboxylic acids corresponding water-soluble complex salts
can.
T h i b a u 1 t, Bull. de la Soc.
Chim.
Pulver. Es ist leicht löslich in Wasser. Auch überschüssige Natronlauge fällt kein
Wismuthydroxyd aus. Schwefelwasserstoff fällt Schwefelwismut. It is already known to let the free protocatechuic acid act on bismuth tartrate or bismuth hydroxide (cf. Thibau 1t, Bull. De la Soc. Chim. 3. ser, Vol.31 [19o41 p.176). But a product with a very high bismuth content, namely 55 to 56 percent Bi, is obtained. By treating with sodium hydroxide solution, precipitating the solution with alcohol and washing out the excess sodium hydroxide solution with alcohol, a salt is obtained which, according to the analysis, has the following composition: C7 H4 05 Bi Na with 52 to 53 percent Bi specified. According to the present process, a product is obtained with about 28 percent Bi. The new products are not only quantitatively different from the familiar in terms of their bismuth content, but also have a different composition in terms of quality. Given the importance that the composition of the complex molecule has for toxicity and healing properties, this is of essential importance. The bismuth complex salt prepared according to the example has shown itself to be particularly effective among many other examined complex salts of bismuth in therapeutic attempts on experimental foot-and-mouth disease. Example. 1 5 g of protocatechuic acid are dissolved in the equivalent amount of sodium hydroxide solution. The neutral solution is heated. A suspension of freshly precipitated bismuth hydroxide is then added. This dissolves. Sodium hydroxide is added to the extent that the reaction is finally neutral and the addition of the bismuth hydroxide is continued until no more vismuth hydroxide is dissolved in the warmth. It is then filtered and the filtrate is evaporated. The sodium salt of bismuth protocatechuic acid remains as a slightly colored powder. It is easily soluble in water. Excess caustic soda does not precipitate any bismuth hydroxide either. Hydrogen sulfide falls bismuth.
Statt der Natronlauge kann man z. B. Kalilauge oder Ammoniak oder
die Lösung eines Amins verwenden.Instead of caustic soda you can z. B. potassium hydroxide or ammonia or
use the solution of an amine.
