Hargreaves kennzeichnet in seinem britischen Patent 305211872 vom 16. Oktober
Process for the production of sulphate by the Hargreaves process. In his British patent 305211872 of October 16, 1872, Hargreaves characterizes the process as proceeding most favorably as follows: (-Allow very finely divided table salt. By the action of sulfur dioxide and atmospheric oxygen and in the presence of superheated steam 'at 400 ° C with elimination of hydrogen chloride sodium sulfate The higher the temperature, the faster this process proceeds, with the restriction, however, that the () 1); ii11ui11 is between 50 and 550 ° C, because the atrium sulfate formed is above this temperature begins to sinter. It should be noted here that the process was ultimately most advantageously carried out in several, approximately 8 cylinders, which were filled with table salt, which were alternately switched so that the fresh SO, with almost finished salt or the worked up SO2 with little decomposed salt comes into contact and which, and this is the main thing, could not be filled with fine salt. because (read would have made it difficult or impossible for the SO gas to pass through, but with salt, which was formed into small briquettes or the like after being moistened and then dried again. If the reaction process now has a temperature of 500 to 55o ° and the aforementioned sintering process begins, sodium sulfate on the outer surface envelops the sodium chloride inside the briquette and thus prevents its conversion. For this reason MacDougall took out a patent to keep the salt loose in constant movement The principle of the pyrite roasting ovens designed by him was exposed to the action of the SO gas.
It follows that the most advantageous apparatus for carrying out
of the reaction process is that which allows the salt to be in a fine state
to expose to the action of sulfur dioxide at a temperature which is a certain
The extent of the sintering process of the sodium sulphate need not be afraid of, because that

Include sodium chloride. Furthermore, such an apparatus would have to be without effort from
