Die sogen, amerikanischen Billards haben bekanntlich an der dem Stand des Spielers entgegengesetzten Schmalseite eine Anzahl von neben einander liegenden Oeffnungen a mit horizontalem Eingang, in welche die Bälle hineingespielt werden, und aufserdem an beiden Seiten, etwa in halber Entfernung von der Bande, von welcher der Spieler stöfst, bis zu den erwähnten neben einander liegenden Oeffnungen α zwei Löcher b im Billardboden, Fig. 4, in welche ebenfalls die Bälle gespielt werden können. Die in die Hinteröffnungen sowohl wie in die Mittellöcher gespielten Bälle fallen dann durch den Billardboden durch in unter demselben angebrachte Rinnen c und laufen auf deren geneigter Fläche wieder nach dem Spielerstand zurück, so dafs der Spieler die gemachten Bälle nur aus dem vor ihm befindlichen Kasten d herauszunehmen braucht.As is well known, the so-called American billiards have on the narrow side opposite the player's stand a number of adjacent openings a with a horizontal entrance, into which the balls are played, and also on both sides, about halfway from the board, from which the player pushes two holes b in the billiard floor, Fig. 4, into which the balls can also be played, up to the mentioned openings α lying next to one another.
