Process for the manufacture of tanning agents. With further elaboration
of the procedure of the main patent 405799 `erde observed that the there as essential
Recognized improvement, the addition of acid-blunting agents still allows
the tanning carried out for the Congo sour so far worthless and therefore so far
previously removed water-insoluble residue of the oxidized brown coal, peat and
to dissolve similar substances temporarily and after the precipitation by acids as
To make tools useful for the tanning process.
This residue dissolves in alkalis, even the weakest,
on and precipitates again on the addition of acids which react acidic against the Congo. Such
Precipitation is of less importance as a tanning agent in and of itself. Their main value lies
according to the present invention rather that they are because of their wealth
on fatty or fatty acid-like and phlobaphane-like substances greasy and filling
act on the skin, i.e. improve the suppleness and yield of the leather,
when used in combination with an actual tanning agent. This communal
Application can be done in a very simple way by getting either the water soluble
Tannic acid from the substances to be used and nitric acid from a sodium salt solution
of the insoluble residue or by adding the insoluble residue together
the not yet separated soluble tannic acid is mixed with so much alkali that
the residue just dissolves, and then the mixed solution acidifies again until it is reached
highest tanning effect.
Beispiele. i. 192 Teile 52prozentige Casseler

One can use the blunted mixed solutions as well as the
blunted unmixed tannic acids of the process of the main patent for obtaining
special effects, for example in terms of suppleness, yield and color
the leather, an addition of natural or artificial tanning agents or auxiliaries,
such as B. Sulphite pitch, paste, British gum, soluble cellulose breakdown products, lignic acid,
Add castor oil sulfonic acid and the like. Examples. i. 192 parts of 52 percent Casseler
Lignite is gradually introduced into 4 to 8o ° C; precise nitric acid,

then again with the withdrawn solution.
Zoo parts will be bacon peat with a water content of 5o percent
treated with Zoo parts of 5% nitric acid in the heat until it disappears
the iodine starch reaction. The crust that forms when it cools down quietly
and the sediment are separated from the resulting solution by means of 8 parts
Dissolved concentrated sodium hydroxide solution and reincorporated into the separated solution.

erfolgen.5. 125 parts of Union lignite briquettes with a water content of
20 percent and 400 parts of 47 percent nitric acid get together at 8o to 9o '
implemented until the reaction mixture no longer blues the iodine starch paper
gives. Let it cool down in peace, separate the crust and sediment from the solution,
and dissolves them by means of 10 parts of concentrated ammonia, whereupon if necessary
is still being balled; then stir in the separated syrup again and set
100 parts of 5% lignin sulfonic acid solution. The ball can only now
take place.
