Description
Acid-resistant alloy. Addition to patent 387398 *). In the patent specification 387398 describes an acid-resistant alloy consisting of cobalt and not less than 32 percent by weight silicon. It has now been found that the strengths these alloy series can still be increased considerably without their anti-oxidizing properties and reducing acids to reduce existing resistance, when part of the cobalt is replaced by tungsten, vanadium, molybdenum, titanium or chromium is, and even small amounts of these metals are sufficient to increase the strength to evoke. Several of the metals mentioned can also be alloyed at the same time will. The effect also occurs if, for example, instead of pure silicon, high-percentage Ferrosilicon is used in commercial form, as in patent 389189 or, instead of pure cobalt, commercially available goods with a low nickel content. The alloys with about 32 to 49 percent by weight also offer particular advantages Silicon and correspondingly about 51 to 68 percent by weight cobalt, as in these alloys the exothermic reaction in the formation of the compound Co Si due to its sudden strength Increase in temperature the absorption of the mentioned additional metals in the alloy very much relieved.
