Der Haupttheil des Apparates ist ein hohler, aus wellenförmig geprefsten oder glatten Scheiben gebildeter Körper A, welcher ganz mit Wasser oder einer anderen Flüssigkeit gefüllt und vermittelst einer Zugstange mit einem Glockenventil B verbunden ist. Derselbe berührt die vom Feuer am meisten bespülte Stelle der Kesselbleche und ist die Elasticität und die Stärke der Wandungen von A dem Drucke, für welchen der Dampfkessel concessionirt wurde, angepafst, und zwar so, dafs unter Berücksichtigung des im Dampfkessel auf A wirkenden , Gegendruckes bei dem concessionirten Maximaldruck ein OefFnen des Glockenventils erfolgt. Der Druck in dem gefüllten hohlen Körper A wird durch die Wärme der Kesselwände bezw. des Kesselwassers erzeugt und durch den Dampfdruck im Kessel reducirt. Bei entstehendem Siedeverzuge wird das Kesselwasser über den dem Dampfdrucke entsprechenden Hitzegrad erwärmt und infolge dessen auch der Körper A. Es soll hierdurch eine Ausdehnung von A und daher ein Oeffnen. des Glockenventils stattfinden, wodurch sofort der Siedeverzug ausgeglichen wird. Ebenso soll eine Ausdehnung des Körpers A stattfinden bei der Entblöfsung desselben vom Kesselwasser, auch bei Anhäufung von Kesselstein.
