Abstract

Moist crystallised sugar, specially in a fine size consists of fructose or dextrose, is dried and cooled in a slowly revolving horizontal drum. The material is charged at one end in a planar thin curtain which is traversed by the air in a perpendicular direction. Lifting scoops along the inside cause the crystals to be sprayed across the drum into a fluidised bed of sugar crystalsm. Typically, the plant includes a long horizontal drum with a slight gradient which receives the crystallised sugar from a funnel and most of the drying air for the drying zone. In the cooling zone, cold air is admitted in counter-flow through the cool air chest. Dry cold sugar crystals leave at the end. The air leaves through the shell. Internal scoops cause the crystals to be sprayed across the drum.
