Abstract

In a piezoelectric ink printing head having a nozzle front with one or more nozzles, one or more ink feed channels connected to the nozzle(s) and one or more piezoelectric drive elements which constrict the ink in the channel(s) to effect ink ejection as droplets, the novelty is that: (i) the drive element (1) has a piezoceramic part (2) with a trench, a first electrode (3) which closes the trench to form a channel (5), and a second electrode (4) which is isolated from the first electrode and is located on the piezoceramic part; and (ii) the nozzle front is directly connected with the piezoceramic part. Prodn. of the printing head involves (a) producing one or more troughs in a polarised piezoceramic wafer; (b) placing a common first electrode (3) on the wafer to close the troughs and form channels (5); (c) applying second electrodes (4) on the wafer face opposite the troughs so that the electrodes run centrally and parallel over the channels and do not contact one another; (d) sepg. the drive elements (1) from one another by cutting the wafer between the second electrodes at least along the length of the electrically contacting regions; and (e) producing the nozzle front, connected with the channels (5), on the front side of the wafer.
