Abstract

Injection moulded plastic bobbins are produced with soldering pins by inserting the pins into the mould before injection moulding the body. In this process the pins are applied without being coated; after the moulding cycle they are then dipped into fluxing material and finally coated with metal. The bobbin has a conventional winding area (1) between flanges (2), the lower (3) of which has the embedded soldering pins (4) and the thicker part (5) to prevent being pulled out. The pins (4) are uncoated where they are embedded; outside the moulding however they are subsequently coated (6). The coating is produced e.g. by dipping into a bath of lead/tin mixture (lead:tin = 40:60). The depth of the dip can be controlled exactly to meet requirement.
