Abstract

Iron oxide contg. material is directly reduced to sponge iron using solid carbon-contg. reducing agent in a rotating tube furnace by initially sieving the material into a coarse, fine and very fine fraction using sieve meshes of 3-6 and 0.8-1.5mm. The coarse fraction is charged into the furnace at one end with the fine fraction being blasted over the charge in the reduction zone from the exit end.
