Abstract
A DIRECT REDUCING PROCESS USING A VERTICAL FURNACE IS DISCLOSED IN WHICH IRON ORE (INCLUDING LUMP ORE AND PELLETS) CHARGED IN THE FURNACE IS PREVIOUSLY TREATED WITH A CEMENT COATING APPLIED TO THE SURFACE OF THE ORE. THE CEMENT MAY BE PORTLAND CEMENT AND IS USED IN A QUANTITY WITHIN A PREDETERMINED RANGE.(FIG. 1&2)
