Abstract

The communication system allows bidirections communication between a pair of devices (5) via a number of relay stations (1) between successive sections (2,3) of the communication path. At least one of these sections (2) comprises a cable acting as a transmission and reception antenna. The intermediate relay stations (1) have two opposing amplifiers for equalising the attenuation in the adjacent line section (2). When a radio signal is received the successive sections (2) are switched through one after the other, to allow the signals to be forwarded in the required direction. Simultaneous disconnection of the sections is performed after passage of the relayed communication signals.
