Abstract

A coil, and a transformer winding in particular, is encapsulated in insulation by placing it in an elastic rubber mould of size and shape corresp. to those of the finished article, placing the mould in a bath filled with impregnant and then evacuating it, maintaining the vacuum for sufficient time for the coil to become completely impregnated, removing the mould from the bath and placing it in an oven, and finally removing the mould when the impregnant is cured and demoulding the impregnated coil. The mould is pref. made of silicone elastomer.
