Abstract

In prodn. of C fibres from coal tar pitch, esp. bituminous coal tar pitch, (a) the pitch is freed from unmeltable components by filtration, and (b) the pitch filtrate is freed from volatiles by distn. in a thin-film evaporator, thus raising the softening point to above 200 deg. C (c) the pitch fibres spun from the pitch melt are oxidised and carbonised at pre-determined temps.
