Abstract

The corona electrode has a bunch of non-metallic fibres individually longitudinally arranged along it and ending in a common free-lying front face. There are between 10 thousand and 500 thousand and pref. about one hundred thousand fibre ends or peaks per square centimetre. The discharge occurs by point discharge from the ends. The corona electrode is carried with the front face spaced from the surface to be discharged, so as to be contact free with it. The fibres may be single or multiphase carbon, pref. with a graphite structure, or of strongly doped conductive polymers or polymer descendents. The non-doped monomers are of carbon and water, and may have a few nitrogen or sulphur atoms. The monomers are combined into chains with carbon atoms alternately combined via simple and double bonds.
