Um beim Photographieren von allen denjenigen Gegenständen ein scharfes Bild zu erhalten, welche in einem gewissen Gebiet liegen, muß man den Abstand, auf welchen man die Kamera einstellt, wie auch die Blendenöffnung nach den Entfernungen des nächsten und des entferntesten Punktes des Gebietes richten. Die vier genannten Größen, der Mindestabstand, der Einstellungsabstand, der Höchstabstand und die Blendenöffnung hängen nämlich in der Art und Weise voneinander ab, daß, sobald deren zwei willkürlich gegeben sind, die übrigen durch gewisse mathematische Beziehungen völlig bestimmt sind. In der photographischen Literatur findet man verschiedene Tafeln, welche zusammengehörige Werte dieser Veränderlichen angeben, oder graphische Darstellungen desselben Zusammenhanges.
