The holder of Fig. 1 differs from that of Fig. 3 of Patent No. 34591 in that the two tubes ab and ef of that holder in the present construction are replaced by a single tube abc which extends through the ink reservoir to the pen and has an opening b near the bottom of the container through which both the Ink is sucked into it as well as pressed towards the pen.

The holder is filled as follows:

The mouth α is closed by means of the pushed-on tube r, the sleeve h ^{1 is} removed, the end c of the tube abc is dipped in ink and then the rubber bulb g is pressed together several times; this fills the container with ink.

Fig. 2 shows a similar construction. Here again two tubes α b and ef are arranged, but one does not protrude into the other, as in Fig. 3 of patent no. 34591, but ef only goes through the plug s and is slightly flanged behind it to prevent it from being pulled out, and the tube α b does not reach as far as the end f of the tube ef . In addition, the cap k (FIG. 2 of patent specification No. 34591) is also used in this construction.

The more air is allowed to enter the container through k , the more ink will drain off at the bottom. This has made it unnecessary to press the rubber ball g while writing.

The construction shown in FIGS. 3 and 4 is an improvement on that shown in FIG. 34591 illustrated pen holder. The difference is that the compression spring F has been omitted and the tubes ab and ef are arranged as in FIG. A larger lateral opening E is arranged in the sleeve A, so that when writing one squeezes the rubber tube directly with the thumb and thus causes the ink to run out.

It is expedient to make the tube ai as short as it is drawn in FIG. 3; it then does not prevent the tube α b from compressing the rubber tube.

In the constructions shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, too, the compression spring F can be omitted and pressure can be exerted directly on the rubber ball with the thumb.
