Abstract

Upon failure of controls for a diesel engine, a safety system is combined with the electronic fuel injection to control the fuel supply and regulate the speed to a safe level. The computer controlled injection system uses engine speed signals and further signals for other operating conditions in the usual manner, and the special control unit for the safety system also receives signals corresponding to the accelerator and brake pedal positions also two sets of pulses corresponding to the engine speed. Output signals, control the position of the fuel supply regulator after comparing modified idling conditions and the minimum position of the regulator. To establish the corrected position of the regulator, a redundant position controller is used to control the position of the normal position controller. Signals corresponding to the starting and idling characteristics are processed. Brake pedal position signals are compared with speed control signals.
