Dies kann beispielsweise dadurch gelingen, daß man bei der Herstellung des Bandes durch Extrusion die Gegenwart von Feuchtigkeit vermeidet und die Bänder luftdicht verpackt, bis zum Anwendungsort transportiert und dort möglichst schnell verarbeitet. Nach dem Verschweißen der Bandkanten setzt dann eine allmähliche Vernetzung ein, die durch erwärmten Wasserdampf noch beschleunigt werden kann. Die Randbereiche 3 a und 3 b zweier Bänder können somit, wie bei 4 dargestellt, durch Schmelzschweißen, vorzugsweise durch Spiegelschweißen, miteinander flüssigkeitsdicht verbunden werden. Durch Verbindung einer Vielzahl derartiger Bänder können großflächige Abdecklagen in einfacher Weise hergestellt werden. Die Fig. 2 zeigt ein Anwendungsbeispiel für Bänder gemäß der Lehre der Erfindung. Es ist dort ein Satteldach dargestellt, bei dem die Bänder 1 über den First einstückig von Traufe zu Traufe verlegt sind, wobei ihre Randbereiche, wie bei 4 dargestellt, miteinander verschweißt sind. Die Bänder 1 sind auf einer Oberfläche mit einem geeigneten Kleber oder einer Dicht- oder Korrosionsschutzmasse beschichtet, so daß sie auf dem Dach durch Erwärmen der Bänder über den Schmelzpunkt der Masse befestigt werden können. 1m Bereich der Traufen können die Enden der Bänder 1 zwecks Bildung einer Regenrinne hochgezogen werden, so daß auf gesonderte Regenrinnen bei der dargestellten Konstruktion verzichtet werden kann. Die Befestigung der Bänder 1 auf der Unterkonstruktion des Daches geschieht durch Erwärmung der Bänder 1 und anschließendes Anpressen der Bänder an die Unterkonstruktion.
