Description
Process for the production of fatty acids. There is a process in the main patent placed under protection, according to which fatty acids are thereby obtained from hydrocarbons should be that the latter at elevated temperature iderart with oxygen treated that the oxygen in the presence of water to the hydrocarbon is brought to action. Oxygen can of course be in the form of Air or other gases containing oxygen can be used.
It has now been found that this method works with good Success also on the so-called montan wax, made from vegetal bitumen Bitumen wax types obtained from origin can be used, both on the raw Waxes obtained by extraction as well as those obtained by distillation recovered raffinates.
If such bodies are treated with oxygen or oxygen-containing gases in the presence of water and at high temperature, then fatty acids are obtained which are, among other things, particularly suitable for the production of soaps. It is not unlikely that at the same time a breakdown of the montan wax molecule takes place with the formation of lower fatty acids. In the following, the method is to be explained using the example of montan wax: 50 parts of montan wax . are enclosed in an autoclave with 100 parts of water and 50 parts of potassium hydrate, and in this autoclave oxygen # as up to a pressure of 8 atm. pressed in. It is advisable to ensure that the montan wax is kept below the surface of the liquid by mechanical means, at least for the first time of the heating that now follows. The autoclave is operated for several hours up to a vapor pressure of 30 atm. heated. After cooling, it can be seen that there is only a low pressure in your autoclave. This procedure results in: 22.25 parts of fatty acid which, as a water-soluble, fatty acid alkali, were partly dissolved and partly contained in the aqueous alkali.
