Description
Method for measuring the water level, especially in narrow tubes. The new method for measuring the water level is particularly suitable for measurements in narrow tubes, without being restricted to this. It is also used to advantage when tubes in which the water level is to be measured are curved or not accessible from above, but only through a lateral attachment. The method consists in lowering a metal body attached to a ladder to the surface of the water. The upper end of the conductor is connected to one terminal of a galvanometer and the other terminal is conductively connected to the water with the interposition of a power source. The impact of the metal body on the water level is then indicated by a deflection of the galvanometer.
A suitable facility to carry out the new procedure is for example shown in the drawing, namely Fig. i: shows the entire Arrangement and Fig. Z the metal body.
One end of the measuring tape is with the. Terminal 6 of the galvanometer 7 is conductively connected, from the other terminal 8 a line leads to one pole 9 of a galvanic element, the other pole of which is connected to the well pipe i by the line io. The metal body ii, which is held in an insulating body 13 by screws, is seated at the free end of the measuring tape 5. The metal core of the measuring tape 5 is connected at the top to the MetaR body ii by means of the clamp 14. A sleeve 15 is screwed onto the insulating body 13 with a sealing ring 16 in between. The introduction of the measuring tape into the sleeve is also sealed by rubber r7. The insulating body 13 carries a hook 18 at the bottom, to which additional weights ig can be attached in order to tighten the measuring tape 5 and to more easily overcome any friction of the measuring tape or the metal body that occurs during use.
The measurement takes place in such a way that, by turning the crank 4, the metal body ii is lowered to the surface of the water. At the moment where the screws i? come to the height of the water level , a current flows from one pole of the power source 9 via the line io, the well pipe i, the water in the well, the screws 12, metal body ii :, metal core of the measuring tape 5 to the terminal 6 of the galvanometer, through this and out of the terminal 8 back to the power source 9. As a result, the galvanometer deflects and thereby shows the impact of the metal body on the water surface and thus the time for the reading.
It is readily apparent that one with metal bodies of small Dimensions so that the measurement in tubes of small diameter, at fountain z. B. also in the small space between the filter tube and suction tube can be done.
If the measurement is made in an iron pipe, the metal body at the lower end of the measuring tape can be designed so that it touches the surface of the water with a metal which is not iron and is expediently as far away as possible from the iron in the galvanic series. 'The galvanic element formed of iron, water and the metal contact can then be used alone or in conjunction with the aforementioned galvanic element as a power source for bringing about the Galvanometerausschlages. Here is "to switch course, the galvanic element that his E. MK adds to that generated in the measuring tube E. MK.
The measurement is not made in a pipe made of iron, but in one made of other metal, the contact metal must of course be made accordingly to get voted. It should be expressly pointed out that also in the present If the carbon contained in the galvanic series can also be used.
The measuring body can also be designed in such a way that a metal body suitable shape with an insulating material leaving the contact surfaces free for the water is pressed. This can also be done in isolation on the circumference, expediently protruding metal rings are pressed in, which protect the insulating material against wear and tear protect when the measuring body is lowered along a pipe wall or the like. Such Metal rings can of course also be used when the measuring body is manufactured in a different way will. There is a risk that, for example, in narrow pipes through the first additional weights immersed in the water cause a change in the water level and so that an unfavorable influence on the measurement result occurs, so can of course the measuring body itself be made sufficiently heavy to tension the measuring tape. The free metal surfaces of the measuring body are then to be laid on its lower edge.
