Glaswalze.
Glass roller. Patented in the German Empire on October 9, 1920.
The invention relates to an improvement of the previously used glass rollers that
consists in the fact that the cleaned surface of a steel cylinder with metallic
Ingredients rich milk glass related and on it different patterns in the same
to be engraved or not. The roller according to the invention is such that it
has no cracks but a smooth and hard surface and by no chemical
Substances can be eaten away.
The drawing illustrates an embodiment of the roller according to
of the invention in Fig. i in a longitudinal section and in Fig.: 2 in an end view.
Because the glass is a dense material and chemical agents
resists well, it is often in the form of a roller for pattern printing in weaving
etc. used. Since the glass is very brittle and easily breakable, it is suitable
there is little in itself for practical use. Among other things, it comes z. B.
when coating the metal core with the molten glass, it is easy for that
the glass coating as a result of the great difference in the coefficient of expansion
of metal and glass jumps. To rule this out, according to the invention
a glass mass is used for the coating of the roller, which has the same coefficient of expansion
as the steel has, so that the coating does not crack when cooled.
The roller according to the invention is carried out in such a way that a
hollow steel cylinder i, the inner diameter of which is larger at one end than at the other
The end, which is conical on the inside, is provided with the desired number of keyways 3,
smoothed, cleaned and then covered with a frosted glass 2 that rich
of metallic components. After cooling, the surface of the glass coating becomes
sanded and cleaned, after which the roller is ready for use. As the roller
is very hard and smooth, it is ideal for calendering and grinding.
Their resistance to chemical substances also makes them very suitable
as a replacement for rollers or rollers made of stone for mixing. and chemical kneading
Material. As is known, stone rollers of large dimensions are very valuable because
a large stone of the same quality is very rare. It also exists here
; the disadvantage that, since the rollers have a relatively small diameter,
it is difficult to drill the hole for the axle and breakage in use
happens very easily. These disadvantages are common to the roller or roller according to the invention
avoided; it is smoother and more resistant to chemicals than one
Roller or roller made of stone and can be made much cheaper than -this.
In addition, stone rollers are difficult to heat, while this is the case with the roller
according to the invention by simple means, such as. B. by letting steam in
the steel cylinder, can be easily effected.
The roller according to the invention can also be used as an embossing roller during printing
can be used by engraving any figures and patterns with the spike,
being they in terms of price, hardness and resistance to chemical
Influencing much more beneficial than the copper rollers previously used for this purpose
is.
