Abstract
An oval housing chamber (2) contains a rotor (4) with slots (8) for sliding vanes (9), with their outer ends (9'') in contact with the inner chamber wall (3). Annular grooves (10) in the rotor end faces (7) each contain a resiliently deformable ring (12) which has a smaller cross-section than the groove and is in contact with the inner ends (9') of the vanes. The vanes are forwards inclined in the direction (13) of rotation by a few deg. whilst the rings are in contact with the radially inner groove dias. are compressible, and have a greater radial dimension than the min. distance between the inner groove walls and the inner vane ends. The dimension, deformability and slide characteristics of the (O-) rings are such that the tangential component of the vane contact pressure causes their rotation (15) in the grooves against the direction of the rotor rotation.
