Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a splice protection for a glass Optical fiber according to the preamble of the patent saying 1.
An optical fiber made of quartz glass has a light leading glass core and a surrounding glass Coat. This glass jacket has an outer diameter of approximately 125 µm. To protect this glass light wave The glass jacket of one is a conductor from environmental influences Kuststoffmantel surrounded, which has an outer diameter of has about 200 µm. For coupling or repairing Glass optical fibers become the ends to be connected the glass fiber optic at first on one Length of about 10 mm from the plastic jacket and then welded together. Such one Splice point is very sensitive to environmental factors flows, for example moisture, and must therefore ge be protected. Splice protection is proposed for this been made of an approximately 50 mm long aluminum brackets that hold a certain amount of glue made of soot-filled polyisobutylene fixed on the splice.
Such a splice protection disadvantageously has one only low adhesive strength on the glass light waves conductor, so that in particular mechanical and corrosive Loads to a reduced tensile strength of the Can lead splice and thus in its environment allow disruptive breakage of the glass optical fiber.
The invention is therefore based on the object Specify generic splice protection that is inexpensive is producible, especially for assembly work in one Cable duct, and the reliable protection of the Guaranteed splice.
This problem is solved by the in the characteristic Part of claim 1 specified features. Advantage sticky refinements and / or further training are the Removable subclaims.
An advantage of the invention is that the gun te splice has a tensile strength that is unsafe spliced glass optical fiber corresponds.
The invention is based on an embodiment exemplified with reference to a cal matic drawing.
The figure shows two glass optical fibers 1 , 2 , in which at the ends to be connected, the original plastic sheath 1 ', 2 ' is removed over a length of about 10 mm. Then a tube 5 is pushed over one of these ends, which is made of quartz glass or plastic, for example, which is transparent to UV light. The tube 5 has an inner diameter of approximately 1 mm, an outer diameter of approximately 1.1 mm and a length of approximately 30 mm. The two glass optical fibers are then welded (spliced) together, for example with the aid of an electric arc. A splice 3 is formed , over which the tube 5 is pushed, so that the splice 3 is located approximately in the middle of the tube 5 . In the tube 5 , a lacquer 6 is now filled, for example a UV-curable lacquer, which preferably corresponds to the original lacquer from which the plastic jacket 1 ', 2 ' is made. Such a lacquer is, for example, a polymer lacquer. After the tube 5 has been filled, the lacquer 6 envelops the splice point 3 . Subsequent polymerization with the aid of actinic UV light hardens the lacquer 6 on all sides for an exemplary time of approximately 1 min. The result is a protected splice, which has the original tensile strength of approximately 6000 N / mm 2 of an unspliced glass optical fiber.
The invention is not based on the embodiment described example limited, but analogously to others reversible. For example, it is possible to use the tube to fill a lacquer that is chemically and / or thermally is curable.
