Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a display device with a electro-optical cell according to the features of the preamble of claim 1.
In modern motor vehicles, display devices are increasingly used with an electro-optical cell for displaying measured values such as Driving speed, speed, etc. used because these are lower Need space than the conventional electromechanical instruments. Here is just in the interest of the small space required, the electrical components, for example chips or so-called Arrange flat pack IC’s directly on one of the carrier plates of the cell and to contact with traces on this cell. It is preparing this contacting of the electrical components on the glass plate so far big problem. The previously used bonding is cumbersome and costly and relatively prone to failure. Even the use of Conductive adhesive has so far not given perfect results since it is not easy, this conductive adhesive is very tight on the to apply adjacent conductor tracks without short circuits between them Traces occur.
The present invention is therefore based on the object To create display device at which without manufacturing Difficulties in connecting the components to the conductor tracks are electrically connected.
This task is inventively with the characterizing features of Claim 1 solved.
The invention is based on the idea that one can easily the necessary electrical connections, even with closely adjacent connections Can make connections to the conductor tracks without the Gafahr of Short circuits exist if one is a connection element Layer with different conductivity in mutually perpendicular Directions used.
In a first realization of this basic idea using a Applying the conductive adhesive becomes essential simplified if you can coat the entire surface of the carrier plate. This is possible if you use a conductive adhesive, the properties of which are as follows are chosen that between the connections of the components and the Conductors have a sufficiently low resistance between the conductor tracks even a sufficiently high resistance can be measured. In finished condition So should the layer of conductive adhesive applied to the carrier plate different electrical properties in mutually perpendicular Have directions. These different electrical properties can about the filling level of the adhesive with electrically conductive Filling material and the selection of the filling material can be influenced.
High-resistance, isotropic, round soot particles (pearl black) can be used as filling material. be used. A bigger difference in resistance in the two However, essential directions can be achieved with low-resistance graphite fibers as a filler because these fibers are good along the surface Have conductivity. So if you go through a big enough one Contact pressure of the connection of the component on the carrier plate therefor ensures that the distance between the connection and the conductor track on the Carrier plate corresponds exactly to the diameter of these fibers, is the Resistance between the connection and the conductor track is very low. The length these fibers, on the other hand, will be chosen smaller than the distance between two Conductor tracks, so that a sufficiently large one on this transmission path ohmic resistance is given.
Finally, you can also use dendritic filler for the conductive adhesive Use carbon particles, with the addition of graphite Conductivity can be improved. This filler material is currently at Conductive varnishes are used and can therefore be obtained inexpensively.
In a second realization of the basic idea of the present Invention, a conductive rubber layer is used, which is transverse to the carrier plate sectionally conductive webs or rod-shaped guide zones. Also this layer has different resistance values parallel or across Carrier plate and is not only in the area of the conductor tracks, but also to the side of these conductor tracks on the carrier plate.
Es zeigen:The invention and its advantageous embodiments are described below based on the embodiments shown in the drawing explained. Show it:

Fig. 5 eine weitere Ausführungsform einer Leitgummischicht. Fig. 5 shows a further embodiment of a Leitgummischicht.
Of the display device constructed per se in a conventional manner, only the rear carrier plate, usually a glass plate 10, is shown in FIG. 1, to which conductor tracks 11 are also applied in a known manner. An electrical component, namely a so-called flat pack IC, is designated by 12 , and metallic connections 14 protrude from the housing 13 thereof. These connections 14 are to be contacted with the associated conductor tracks 11 by means of a conductive adhesive, denoted overall by 15 .
It is essential for the present invention that the carrier plate 10 is coated with this conductive adhesive 15 over a large area, that is to say also between the conductor tracks. It is therefore no longer necessary to ensure that the conductive adhesive is only applied to the conductor tracks 11 .
For this purpose, of course, the conductive adhesive must have certain electrical properties, because a low-resistance connection must be established between the connections 14 and the conductor tracks 11 , while of course the conductor tracks 11 must be sufficiently isolated from one another. The permitted maximum values or the necessary minimum values of these contact resistances depend on the internal resistance of the component 12 that can be measured at the connections 14 . It can be assumed that this internal resistance is of the order of about 10 kilohms. Then the contact resistance between a connection 14 and a conductor 11 should not exceed approximately 100 ohms, while a minimum value of 1 megohm is required for the contact resistance between two conductor 11 .
In Fig. 1, three different conductive adhesive 15 are now indicated. The conductive adhesive in area A is filled with a filling material made of high-resistance isotropic round soot particles 20 . The conductive adhesive 15 in region B , on the other hand, is filled with graphite fibers 21 , the diameter of these graphite fibers 21 just corresponding to the distance between the connection 14 and the associated conductor track 11 . This graphite fiber 21 , which has a low resistance along the lateral surface, thus contacts the terminal 14 and the conductor track 11 with this lateral surface. The length of the graphite fibers is much smaller than the distance between two adjacent conductor tracks.
In area C , a conductive adhesive 15 is shown, in which dendritic carbon particles 22 are used as filling material. These carbon particles should also lie directly on the connections 14 or the associated conductor tracks 11 , so that extremely good conductivity is present in this vertical direction. In contrast, there is only a low conductivity in the horizontal direction between adjacent conductor tracks because the particle concentration is selected accordingly.
It is only pointed out for the sake of order that, of course, no different conductive adhesives will be used in a display device. In Fig. 1, the different conductive adhesives are indicated in an image only for the sake of simplicity.
In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 1, circuits with a housing are contacted directly with the conductor tracks on the glass carrier 10 . In contrast, in the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 2, the chips 24 , that is to say houseless circuits, are to be contacted directly with the conductor tracks. 25 denotes a silicon crystal layer which is covered at least in regions by an insulating layer 26 made of silicon carbide or silicon nitrad or an organic insulating material such as, for example, poyimide. Contacts 27 of the chip protrude from this insulating layer 26 and are contacted with the conductor tracks 11 in the manner already described by means of a conductive adhesive.
Overall, you can use it in a surprisingly simple way Create display device in which with a good long-term behavior Contact point due to the high corrosion resistance of the filling material can be expected. The contacting is very simple because the conductive adhesive can be applied over a large area. in the Result can be the manufacturing costs with the measures according to the invention Such a display device compared to the previously known designs to reduce.
In FIGS. 3 and 4, an embodiment is indicated, which is also based on the idea that arranging a layer between the component and the carrier plate which have different electrical properties in two mutually perpendicular directions. In both cases, a conductive rubber with a special structure is used. In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 3, a frame 32 shown in FIG. 4 is punched out from a guide rubber 30 which is conventional per se with conductive strips 31 in the manner indicated. The side walls 33 of the frame 32 are to extend obliquely to the longitudinal direction of the strips 31 , so that narrow contact webs 34 extending obliquely to these are formed on all four side walls. The size of the frame is of course matched to the dimensioning of the connections of the corresponding component, for example a flat pack IC. It is essential in this embodiment that due to the oblique stamping of the frame 32 from the guide rubber 30, all side walls have low transition resistances only in the vertical direction V , that is to say perpendicular to the carrier plate, while a very high resistance is realized in the horizontal direction H , that is to say parallel to the carrier plate is. If, on the other hand, one punched this frame out of the conductive rubber 30 such that a side wall runs parallel to the stiffener 31 , a conductive connection would be provided along this side wall, so that a short circuit of adjacent connections of the component would have to be feared.
In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 5, the guide rubber has instead of the individual guide strips only individual rod-shaped guide zones 40 with a small cross section oriented perpendicular to the expansion of the rubber, as is shown schematically in the drawing. This conductive rubber layer consequently also has a high conductivity in the direction V, at least in some areas, while a high contact resistance can be measured in the horizontal direction H. Layers of this type are arranged between the component and the carrier plate, the webs 34 and the guiding zones 40, of course, being so close to one another that contacting the connections with the conductor tracks is guaranteed with certainty. In this embodiment, however, additional means are required to fix the component and the conductive rubber to the carrier plate.
