Abstract

The effectiveness of the invention is based on the fact that the high combustion temperatures occurring in internal combustion engines are utilised for the elimination of pollutants. The different composition of combustion exhaust gases here makes it possible to use differently functioning catalytic converters, which exhibit their effectiveness only with heating to correspondingly high temperatures. The exhaust catalytic converter cartridge is adapted in form to the particular engine to which it is to be retrofitted and is inserted into the existing exhaust duct directly between the cylinder head and exhaust connection, where the cartridge, by virtue of its design, is automatically fixed without further attachment. Due to the arrangement of the exhaust catalytic converter cartridge a silencing effect is also brought about.
