Description

Separator for lead collectors who come from a mixture of small pieces Wood, wood flour, sawdust and the like and an acid-resistant, hard or elastic one Binders exist. The separators according to the invention consist of small pieces Wood (wood flour, sawdust or the like), which has a porous, acid-resistant, hard or elastic binding agent is cemented and brought into a suitable shape. The wood is expediently according to Patentschrift.z88567 with alkaline liquids treated in such a way that the substances harmful to the positive plates are removed therefrom, on the other hand, the substances useful for maintaining capacity are left in it. This treatment can either be done before the putty is applied to the wood particles or after completion of the separator. The acid-resistant binder must be of this type be that it is in a liquid or plastic state with the remaining 'constituents the separator can be mixed and then hardened or made elastic. Such binders are e.g. B. hard or soft rubber, regenerated rubber, Bakelite or others Condensation products, celluloid or similar substances, their hardening, etc. in known Way done. Compared to known separators, which are also made of small pieces of wood and a binder, the invention differs in that the Binder is porous. The porosity is given to the binder in that substances are added to it during the liquid or plastic state, which after the hardening, etc. are removed. Of course, these substances must be chosen that they do not damage the collector plates if they are in small amounts in the Scheider remain behind for the time being and only become in the electrolyte in the course of use solve: Such substances are z. B. sodium sulfate, magnesium oxide, zinc oxide. The finished Separators form flat or corrugated plates the size of the electrode plates (or slightly larger) and the thickness of one to several millimeters. Particularly the planar separators are expediently made with ribs either of the same mass as the separators or made of any acid-resistant material. as Example for the production of a separator is given: 3o parts wood flour, 2o Parts of Bakelite and 50 parts of magnesia are intimately mixed, the mixture becomes too Sheets of suitable thickness are rolled out and hardened by heating under pressure. The separators are then placed in dilute sulfuric acid, whereby they are dissolved out the magnesia. become porous.

The separators according to the invention have a long service life, can Store in a dry state and install in the elements, provide the electrical Electricity has little resistance, despite it being able to wander through it in an effective manner of the finely divided Lead peroxide and thus the formation of short circuits prevent, and have a capacity-preserving effect on the = collector plates.
