Kolben. Patentiert im Deutschen Reiche vom 17. Januar 1920 ab.Pistons. Patented in the German Empire on January 17, 1920.
The subject of the invention is a piston which is characterized by in an annular zone by helically extending Cuts created opposite and protruding from the outer surface of the piston Ring segments, the ends of which are cut off at an angle are.
Die Zeichnung stellt ein Ausführungsbeispiel dar.The drawing shows an exemplary embodiment.
Abb. ι ist eine Draufsicht auf den Kolben,Fig. Ι is a top view of the piston,
Abb. 2 eine Seitenansicht desselben, Abb. 3 ein Längsmittelschnitt. Abb. 4 stellt den Kolben in einem Zylinder dar, undFig. 2 is a side view of the same, Fig. 3 is a longitudinal center section. Fig. 4 shows the piston in a cylinder, and
Fig. 5 is a section of a somewhat modified detail of such a piston.
The piston consists of a lower ring i, an upper ring 2 and connecting pieces 3, the uniform; with these ίο ring zones are formed. Your invention however, this shape of the casting is not absolutely necessary. approaches 4 in the connecting pieces 3 serve to receive a pin 5 on. which the piston rod 6 is connected.
The upper ring 1 2 is divided into segments 7 by slots 8 running in the form of a screw. From the upper end of each slot, a slot 9 extends, preferably at an angle thereto, to the upper edge of the piston, so that the two segments can move somewhat away from one another or move towards one another. As can be seen from Figs. 3 and 4, the piston body has a slightly smaller diameter than the cylinder in which it moves. The ring segments but are driven outwards and are therefore in the gas-tight engagement with the inner% · cylinder wall. If the casting from which the piston is made has a slightly smaller diameter than the cylinder as a whole, the segments can be driven apart in some way! will. After they are spread apart 1 , they are treated in such a way that they tend to maintain this position. Corresponding heat treatment can bring about this. The segments then have a larger diameter than the one cylinder in which the piston is supposed to work, and with the introduction of the piston in the cylinder so these segments against each other and practice hingepreßt turn! over the entire circumference of the ring zone exert a, uniform pressure against the cylinder wall, so that neither gas nor other liquid can escape between the piston and cylinder. The gates 9 are preferably inclined so that in this way an overlap blocking of two segments is brought about, and this also prevents the piston from breaking in the cylinder itself. The upper edge of the ring 1 can be beveled, as indicated at 10, so that when the explosion occurs in the cylinder, a component of the forces of the explosion improves this engagement on the cylinder wall. In a similar way, the lower ring 1 is also divided into segments 11, since in it screw-shaped slots 13 are made, which are also lengthened by angular slots 9 near the lower edge of the piston sharpened at 12. The lubricant is pushed back and forth on the cylinder wall through this lower jaw 12.
In the illustrated embodiment, the helical slots 8 go and 13 each around half the circumference of the piston; they can also be longer or be chosen shorter.
According to Fig. 3, the piston cover can be removed from the piston itself. It consists of a curved base 14 and a cylindrical extension 15 which is provided with an external thread in the lower part and which is screwed into a thread of the piston. The screwed-in part rests on an inner flange 16 of the piston, and the cylindrical extension 15 has a shoulder between its open end and the base which rests on the upper part of the piston body. Through this arrangement, the entire piston is significantly stiffened without the resilience of the ring zone itself being impaired, since a clearance remains between the cylindrical projection 15 and the inner wall of the ring zone. The curved base, which according to FIG. 3 lies somewhat below the level of the edge 10, can, however, also protrude beyond the piston 1.
' i°oAfter 'Fig. 5 of the piston head 17 is formed integrally with the one piston body, however, is arranged at a distance from the 1 ring segments, so that the latter during the explosion by the propagation of the pressure in the annular space between the cylindrical projection of the lid and the segments pressed firmly against the cylinder wall.
