Description
Storage jars made of glass. The germicidal effect of metals is known. There are a number of things about the so-called oligodynamic effect of metals of publications appeared. You can z. B. in a filled with water Bottle kill the germs in the water or inhibit their development, by hanging a silver wire. But this is for practical use Procedure cumbersome and unreliable. The sterilizing effect continues after removal of the metal wire was lost again very soon.
It has now been found that a permanent sterilizing effect of vessels can be brought about by the fact that one the inside of the vessels with an extremely fine coating (mirror) of a metal, especially Silver or copper, plated. For mirroring glasses and storage vessels, Bottles, ampoules or the like are advantageously used using the known mirror coating process.
Through the action of the finest distribution on the inner surface of the Glass vessels made of precipitated metals can be used to culture pathogens kill completely.
Vessels with a metallic inner surface are already being used in many cases Used to store fabrics, especially food. A particularly excellent one germicidal However, a sterilizing effect is observed here usually not, apparently because the distribution of the metal is not so fine as with the mirroring of glass vessels. In those cases where you have a Permanent sterile storage of substances is intended, therefore, according to the hitherto known proposals vessels with metallic. Inner surface after their filling is always subjected to a sterilization process. So was z. B. made the proposal to seal solid foods in cardboard containers inside contained a covering of aluminum foil, which is completely airtight in itself was locked. The filled cardboard boxes were sterilized. The metal foil insert therefore had the primary purpose of protecting the contents of the vessel from the harmful effects the hot vapors or liquids during sterilization or the ingress of germs to protect when storing. Metal vessels are either available as such or after applying a special metal coating, often for storage used by perishable materials, e.g. B. as so-called cans. In this case too, the vessels are always hermetically sealed and sterilized.
The following differ from these known sterilization vessels Storage vessels proposed by the present invention in several respects. First of all, there are glass vessels that stand out for their cleanliness; durability and by the ease of making them conveniently in any shape, as well as by their resistance to oxidizing influences from vessels made of metal or cardboard and therefore for food or medicinal preparations to be used with preference. These stressed vessels connect more advantageously Way the sterilizing effect of metals with these well-known advantages of the Glass. Furthermore, the metal becomes so extraordinary through the mirroring finely distributed on the glass so that the effect on the contents of the vessel is particularly strong and is sustainable. Since the sterilizing effect is primarily the proportionate expensive metals such as B. silver, is also a great savings achieved on metal; because barely weighable amounts of metal are enough to make a glass vessel to give the desired sterilizing effect.
As is generally known, one can also search for the so-called Schoop's metal spraying process vessels made from a wide variety of materials are covered with thin layers of metal. For clay pots z. B. one has an inner cover of metal by the Schoop's method. But this did not happen to bring about a special sterilizing effect, but rather to the always existing one To reduce the porosity of the clay pots. Glass vessels have been used until now after Schoopschen Metal spraying process only coated with metal from the outside. A covering from the inside would hardly be able to be achieved with sufficient uniformity. - At smaller vessels could not do it at all. Metallizing the The purpose of glass vessels from the outside is to protect the glass vessels against mechanical impact or heating to make them more resistant and must therefore be relatively thick Shift. In general, the metal consumption is in the Schoop metal spraying process a comparatively much larger than the mirroring we recommend Vessels.
It has also already been recommended, especially laboratory equipment Crucible to be provided with an inner metal coating. But that did not happen with Glass vessels, but those made of refractory material and only had the Purpose, having the resistance of the said devices to high temperatures the resistance of certain metals to chemical influences. The present Invention could not be derived from this proposal.
The excellent sterilizing effect of the on the inside of the Glass in the finest distribution results in extremely thin metal mirror deposited also result from the fact that even highly perishable liquids were mirrored in such liquids Can store glass vessels without them, as was the case with previous preservation vessels It is necessary and customary to seal airtight.
B. in Ampullen. You can keep food in larger glass vessels as well as medical solutions in the smallest vessels, e.g. B. in ampoules.
